Director, Patient Access

SUMMARY:

This position will maximize Patient Access (“PA”) to Company products and accelerate time to treatment. This role will lead a team to provide support & educate healthcare providers (“HCPs”) on Company patient support programs, specialty pharmacy distribution, local pharmacy options and financial assistance offerings.  The position will be the subject matter expert on local payer coverage policies and processes, and will work cross-functionally and collaboratively with field sales, distribution partners, Market Access, and business operations. In addition, the position will develop strategy and support access to Company products through the development of relationships with local advocates and key accounts (IDNs & Health Systems).  This position will be the main interface with corporate departments to develop and then execute strategy.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leads, motivates and develops a national PA field-based team;
  • Trains team on prescription process, distribution model and support program services;
  • Introduces technology options for electronic PA submission;
  • Communicates payer criteria, forms, processes, PA, LMN, Appeals, step edits and formulary exception requests;
  • Calls out action items for HCP staff;
  • Problem solves and conducts case resolution;
  • Directs communication with pharmacy and HUB partners, communicates case status information and payer issues to field sales team, and conducts joint account/HCP calls with Neuropsych Account Specialists (“NAS”);
  • Coordinates with NAS and Regional Sales Managers (“RSM”) to identify HCP needs & opportunities;
  • Participates in Region sales calls/meetings;
  • Leads KOL/Supporter identification and development;
  • Acts as local payer coverage expert;
  • Interfaces with local closed-door pharmacies when needed; and
  • Supports/leads sales training efforts related to Rx process.

Qualifications:

  • BA degree in related field, MBA preferred;
  • 12 years’ life science experience of which seven years needs to be in specialty pharmacy/market access and five years’ leading a team within commercial;
  • Strong understanding of specialty pharmacies, managed care, pharmacy benefit managers and government payers, and their impact on product access;
  • Excellent working knowledge of patient support programs, including reimbursement support, financial assistance, adherence programs and other similar programs;
  • Strong understanding of the prescription adjudication process;
  • Ability to communicate payer coverage criteria and prior authorization processes;
  • Previous experience in other life science roles in highly preferred;
  • Ability to coach, lead and motivate a field team; and
  • Ability to travel 70% of the time.
