Director, Clinical Practice Liaisons


This position is responsible for developing and leading Neurocrine’s medical strategy and engagement of Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) such as Nurse Practitioners (NPs) and Physician Assistants (Pas).  This position will also oversee development of the APP plan of action including capacity analysis, activities and required resources and training. The role will hire and lead a national Clinical Practice Liaison team.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Builds a APP focused Medical Science Liaison (MSL) team including: Recruitment, hiring, management and development;
  • Directly and through team, develops and executes APP MSL team plan including:
    • Focused activity at psychiatric hospitals (e.g., state institutions), key CMHCs, private practice, professional organizations (e.g., APNA state chapters), Conferences, and patient advocacy groups;
    • Act as primary clinical/scientific resource for customers to provide information pertaining to disease state awareness, on-label product knowledge, and advocacy to ensure awareness and understanding; and
    • Operational excellence including managing team budget and Travel &Expense, entry of activities into MSL system of record, team reports and adherence to relevant compliance SOPs
  • Identifies APP Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), societies, and key institutions where APPs practice;
  • Develops and maintains science based relationships with APP KOLs and societies;
  • Develops, oversees and executes medical engagement plan of action for APPs including APP engagement, society and conference activities, educational activities, and research activities as appropriate;
  • Ensures effective capacity analysis and benchmarking to determine appropriate team size;
  • Collaborates and works effectively with the broader MSL team, the Managed Practice MSL lead, the medical communication, medical information as well as the Medical Training and Ops lead;
  • Coordinates strategies and tactical plans with the field based commercial teams including field sales, field payer (NAE) as well as individuals on the marketing team engaging APPs;
  • Works with internal stakeholders to develop Advanced Practice Provider (APP) strategy and business plan for APP MSL team including: POA, training and resource development; and

 Education and ExperienceMasters or doctorate level degree

  • Minimum 3 years of clinical practice experience
  • Minimum 3 years as an Advanced Practice Liaison or MSL
  • Minimum 2 years managing direct reports. Management of field or remote employees strongly preferred
  • Excellent organizational, analytical and communication skills. Ability to balance the big picture with a proven track record of goal-driven/ outcome-based results
  • Requires a clinical practice background as an Advanced Practice Provider, preferably in the Psychiatry or Neurology specialties
  • The ideal candidate will have MSL experience as both an individual contributor and manager of field based employees

Special Considerations

  • Successful experience working cross-functionally is essential
  • Role can be based at corporate office (San Diego) or in the field with proximal access to a large airport. If in field role requires frequent travel to corporate office (approximately once per month)
  • Frequent travel exceeding 50% of the time
  • This role has direct management responsibilities
