Checks requisitions, obtains quotations, examines bids and makes awards.
Develops client-vendor relationships and obtains and maintains knowledge of the various sources of available goods and services in the field.
Develops new supply sources in which vendors and suppliers are inadequate.
Coordinates purchasing activities with other departments to maintain inventory at planned levels.
As required, monitors the cost, schedule and scope of assigned subcontracts to assure best quality and quality at best value.
May determine methods and procedures on new assignments and may provide guidance to other lower-level personnel.
Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
Manages, coaches and trains the purchasing team.
Liaises with cross functional teams such as Accounting, Finance, Legal and Receiving to support joint activities.
Administrates the requisition and purchasing related ERP systems.
Assists in the maintenance, testing, and enforcement of SOx controls.
Possesses proven management skills. Strong organizational and facilitation skills to synthesize data from multiple sources and individuals. Must be highly computer literate and adept at using the entire Microsoft Office suite. Must have an in-depth knowledge of standard purchasing procedures and best practices and have excellent written and oral communication skills. Must exhibit a high degree of customer service and must be teamwork oriented.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Requires a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent. A minimum of 5 to 8 years related experience in purchasing with at least 4 years of leadership experience. Experience with Biotech required. Experience with Reqlogic and/or Great Plains is preferred.
