Assoc. Dir., Forecasting & Competitive Intelligence

Working closely with Finance, Marketing, Sales, Access & Reimbursement, and within Commercial Analytics and Operations, the individual supports commercial management decision making by communicating brand results on key performance indicators, including actual sales performance versus forecast, creates a brand forecast capability, and conducts ongoing competitive surveillance.  Additionally, he or she develops a strong understanding of the marketplace, competition, customer/payer, and product dynamics from data, reports, and forecasts based on reliable information from multiple sources and rigorous analysis.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include, but are not limited to)

Leads the development and implementation of an advanced forecasting capability for the Neurocrine Commercial organization.

Prepares realistic, transparent, and assumption-driven demand and revenue forecasts.  Manages periodic forecast adjustments.  Challenges brand team assumptions and applies forecasting methodologies to support the brand strategy.  Creates, implements, and maintains the forecast model(s) that support the brand.  Monitors, tracks, and communicates actual versus forecasted sales on an ongoing basis.

Manages SKU-level forecast for production planning and delivers revenue and unit forecasts to Finance.

Collaborates with Commercial Analytics and Operations colleagues to design and execute market research/analytics to support forecast assumptions.

Designs and produces routine management dashboards, ad hoc reports and tracking metrics to assist the executive management team, as well as the sales and commercial teams, in understanding and managing the business.

Analyzes proactively internal and third party data sources to project the business impact of trends.  Makes recommendations for action to commercial leadership based on those trends.

Delivers ongoing and periodic project-based competitive insight and analysis, in response to priorities agreed with the brand team.  Ensures effective integration of competitive intelligence from a variety of sources to answer key intelligence questions, develop strategic recommendations, and contribute toward the effectiveness of the commercial organization.

Oversees the development of the CI and forecasting budget, and manages all approved budgets and vendors.

Provides strategic input to help shape the annual brand plan, brand strategies, and the launch plan.  Serves as a consultative, trusted advisor to brand marketing leadership.

Builds, manages and maintains relationships with key vendors of forecasting analytics, competitive intelligence, and consulting services.


Experience in demand forecasting, uncertainty analyses, e.g., Monte Carlo simulation, higher level statistics, and systems modeling.

Strategic understanding of pharmaceutical sales and marketing with the ability to identify market drivers, trends, issues, etc.  Knowledge and experience working with biopharmaceutical market data (meaning of data, limitations of data, ability to manipulate, etc.) including IMS/SHS data, epidemiology data, claims, etc.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to integrate primary and secondary data to create insights and actionable recommendations.

Outstanding organizational and computer skills (including Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Word).  Broad-based awareness of MS Access, SAS, and other modeling software.

Ability to work both independently and cross functionally as part of a team.

Basic consulting skills, including consultative listening, problem definition, hypothesis generation, data analysis, and translation of solutions to business value.

Ability to convert competitive and product analyses and conclusions into easily understandable and persuasive oral and written presentations.  Demonstrated experience in statistical analyses of quantitative research results.

Ability to source and work closely with vendors on forecasting and CI analytical projects.  Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.

Able to flourish in a small, entrepreneurial company environment.


Bachelor’s degree in related field with a minimum of 5 years relevant commercial analytical and forecasting experience within the biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry.  Market research experience preferred.  Master’s degree is highly preferred.  Launch product experience required, preferably when establishing new markets.  Experience within the CNS therapeutic area preferred.
